Father sues gay son

VIDEO: Father sues gay son for upbringing costs

A father in the United States has sparked widespread outrage and debate after attempting to sue his 18-year-old son for the cost of raising him, following the teenager’s decision to come out as gay.

The man, identified as Gregory Talbert, filed the lawsuit against his son, Michael, describing his upbringing as a “failed investment” and demanding financial compensation. He also reportedly sought reimbursement for expenses, including a controversial “conversion therapy” programme he had previously forced his son to attend.

During the court proceedings, Michael recounted how he was allegedly threatened with eviction if he refused to participate in the programme, which he described as emotionally distressing and abusive.

However, the case was swiftly dismissed by the presiding judge, who ruled that parenting responsibilities cannot be treated as financial investments. Delivering judgment, the court emphasised that children are not obligated to repay the cost of their upbringing, regardless of personal choices or identity.

The incident has since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions on social media. While many users condemned the father’s actions as insensitive and harmful, others debated cultural and moral perspectives surrounding the issue.

The ruling has reinforced legal boundaries on parental responsibility, making it clear that raising a child cannot be monetised or reclaimed through litigation.
