UCL: PSG beat Monaco 5-4 on aggregate, secure last 16 spot

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain secured a place in the UEFA Champions League last 16 after a 2–2 draw with AS Monaco on Wednesday night.

The result gave PSG a 5–4 aggregate victory following their 3–2 win in the first leg.

Monaco took the lead just before halftime when Maghnes Akliouche finished from close range after Mamadou Coulibaly’s pass.

The game changed in the 58th minute when Coulibaly received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Achraf Hakimi, leaving Monaco with 10 men.

PSG quickly took control. Captain Marquinhos scored from a short free-kick routine to restore their aggregate advantage.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia added the second goal in the 66th minute, reacting fastest after Hakimi’s shot was saved.

Monaco kept pushing and scored in stoppage time through Jordan Teze, but it was only a consolation as PSG held on.

“We deserved to qualify, but we were made to suffer the whole time,” PSG coach Luis Enrique said.

PSG will find out their next opponents on Friday. The French side could face either Chelsea FC or FC Barcelona in the next round.
