Trump posts image of Jesus embracing him

President Donald Trump on Wednesday shared what appears to be an AI-generated image depicting him being embraced by Jesus Christ in front of an American flag.

“The Radical Left Lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice!!!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, alongside a screenshot of another user’s post containing the image.

The post is the latest in a string of religious imagery Trump has shared or engaged with online. It follows a now-deleted post that depicted Trump as Jesus Christ — a characterisation Trump rejected on Monday.

Overnight, Trump also shared what appeared to be defences of that deleted post and continued to criticise Pope Leo XIV. In one such post, he amplified a user’s compilation of old social media activity from the pope’s account before his papal election, when he was Cardinal Robert Prevost.

“It’s fascinating to see what social media reveals about a person before they become the Pope,” the shared post read. “Before he became Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Robert Prevost was on Twitter trashing Trump, criticizing Vance, calling for open borders, promoting COVID vaccines, endorsing stricter gun control, and tweeting after George Floyd.”

“Not good!!!” Trump wrote in his own post.

Vice President JD Vance also weighed in on Tuesday, addressing the pope at a conference of young conservatives in Athens, Georgia.

“If you’re going to opine on matters of theology, you’ve got to be careful, you’ve got to be sure it’s anchored in the truth and that’s one of the things that I try to do and that’s certainly something I would expect from the clergy,” said Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019.

Vance added that the pontiff should “be careful when he talks about matters of theology.“
