A 72-year-old man who spent 45 years building a life in the United States has been tragically killed at his home in Ikorodu, Lagos State, shortly after returning to Nigeria to enjoy his retirement.
Alhaji Mutiu Agbosasa, popularly known as “Baba Agbosasa,” lived in Brooklyn, New York, for more than four decades. During that time, he raised a family and meticulously planned for his senior years in his hometown. A few years ago, he constructed a retirement home in Ikorodu, anticipating a quiet life in familiar surroundings.
Tragically, in the early hours of the morning, armed intruders reportedly breached his residence and shot him fatally.

The news has sparked an outpouring of grief and anger on social media. Reacting on X, one user lamented that Alhaji Mutiu should have remained in the U.S., writing, “He for jeje dey him America.” Another user, discouraged by the incident, commented: “45 years of being away working hard, only to be killed on his own soil. What a country.”
The brutal killing of Alhaji Agbosasa has once again brought the issue of insecurity into sharp focus, particularly for the Nigerian diaspora.
