Gunmen have shot dead a Nigerian man, identified only as Chimezie, at a bar in the Durban area of South Africa.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday while the victim, who worked as a bartender, was attending to customers. Two unidentified men reportedly entered the bar, spoke briefly with him, and then opened fire multiple times before fleeing.
Witnesses said Chimezie was found unresponsive and confirmed dead at the scene. A source familiar with the case suggested the killing might be linked to cult-related activities.
The Nigerian man shot in Durban had recently relocated from Johannesburg to take up the bartending job, according to Naija Confra, a platform known for exposing cult-related violence.

Confirming the incident, the President of the Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA), Mr. Smart Nwobi, said the union was working with local authorities to curb gang and cult-related killings involving Nigerians.
“We are aware of the incident and have been collaborating with South African law enforcement to stop these attacks,” Nwobi said, adding that Durban has recorded most of such cases.
He noted that no arrest had been made as of press time.
