Florida: Golf superstar, Tiger Woods, involved in car crash, condition unclear

Golf legend Tiger Woods was involved in a car crash in Florida on Friday, according to authorities, with details about his condition yet to be confirmed.

The incident was reported by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, which disclosed that the crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in the Florida town where Woods resides. Officials said investigations are ongoing, but did not immediately release information about the cause of the accident or the extent of injuries, if any.

Law enforcement officers are expected to brief the media later in the day, as concerns grow over the wellbeing of the 15-time major champion.

Images from the scene showed what appeared to be Woods’ SUV overturned on its side, raising alarm among fans and the wider sporting community.

The development comes at a sensitive time for Woods, who has been battling a series of health challenges in recent months. The 50-year-old has been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon, as well as undergoing back surgery in October.

Despite his struggles, Woods had only recently returned to competitive action, featuring in the TGL finals earlier this week. His team, Jupiter Links GC, lost to the Los Angeles Golf Club in what marked his first appearance in over a year.

The latest crash has also revived memories of his near-fatal accident in February 2021, when his vehicle rolled multiple times in California, leaving him with severe leg injuries that required multiple surgeries and a prolonged hospital stay.

At the time, Woods admitted he was fortunate to survive, revealing that doctors considered amputating part of his right leg.

He had been weighing a potential return to the PGA Tour, with hopes of competing at the Masters scheduled to begin on April 9 at Augusta National Golf Club.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from Woods or his representatives regarding Friday’s crash.
