Sony has announced price increases for its PlayStation hardware lineup, including the PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro and the PlayStation Portal.
The company said the changes will take effect from April 2, 2026, citing ongoing pressure in the global economy.
In a statement on the PlayStation Blog, Sony said the decision followed a review of market conditions.
“We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide,” said Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
In the United States, the standard PS5 will cost $649.99, while the Digital Edition rises to $599.99. The PS5 Pro will be priced at $899.99.
In the United Kingdom, prices will be £569.99 for the PS5, £519.99 for the Digital Edition, and £789.99 for the PS5 Pro. In Europe, the consoles will cost €649.99, €599.99, and €899.99 respectively. In Japan, prices are set at ¥97,980, ¥89,980, and ¥137,980.

The PlayStation Portal will also increase to $249.99 in the U.S., with similar adjustments in other regions. Sony advised customers in other markets to check local retailers or its official sales platform for updated pricing.
This is the second price hike since August 2025, when Sony last raised console prices. The latest increase pushes the PS5 further above its original $499.99 launch price in 2020.
Sony said the decision reflects wider global cost pressures affecting production and supply chains.
The company joins Nintendo and Microsoft, which have also raised hardware prices in recent months.
The changes come ahead of major upcoming releases such as Grand Theft Auto VI, which is expected to drive strong demand for current-generation consoles.
