Motorists and other road users of Arochukwu-Ohafia road can finally heave a sigh of relief as the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Mao Ohuabunwa on Sunday flagged off the reconstruction of the road after years of neglect, leaving the road almost impassable for commuters.
Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, represented by his deputy, Ude Oko at the event, lauded Senator Ohuabunwa for attracting the project to the zone.
Ikpeazu said, “I must sincerely commend Senator Ohuabunwa for his efforts in ensuring the Arochukwu-Ohafia road is motorable. You are aware that contract for the reconstruction of this road had been awarded severally. But no work was done on the road.
“Residents of Arochukwu-Ohafia, including commercial drivers have suffered a lot due to the dilapidated state of the road. I think the reconstruction of the road attracted by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa will help to alleviate the sufferings of the people plying the road.
“This project attracted by the senator has complimented the efforts of the state government in ensuring total infrastructural development of the state. The distinguished senator has made us proud.”
On his part, Senator Ohuabunwa thanked the people of the zone, assuring them of quality representation and attracting more people-oriented projects to the zone.
Ohuabunwa said: “During my campaign, one thing that kept coming up each time we visit communities within Arochukwu and Ohafia is the state of the Arochukwu-Ohafia Federal Road and the need to do something about it. As a Legislator, I know for sure that the only way to get it done is through appropriation and as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I am well positioned to use my legislative privileges to get it done for my people.”
The senator thanked the governor and other government officials in the state for their support, while pledging his resolve to monitor the execution of the project.
Senator Ohuabunwa, recently, conducted a skill acquisition training programme which was handled by Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDAN).
The senator also equipped each participant with the necessary tools needed in the area of training with a financial support of up to N50,000.
