Pope Francis joined the social media platform, Instagram, on Saturday
under the username @franciscus, and shared a photo of himself praying
Today reported that Instagram CEO and co-founder, Kevin Systrom, was on site and also documented the moment.
“Watching Pope Francis post his first photo to Instagram today was an incredible moment,” he captioned a photo of himself.
The pope’s move comes three years after he joined Twitter, where he now has 25 million followers in nine different languages.
The pope’s Twitter handle, @pontifex, was launched by Pope Benedict
in 2012. Pope Francis took the handle over when he took office in 2013.
