Samsung Electronics has launched its first multi-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, aiming to stay ahead in the growing foldable phone market. The device folds in two places and is designed to show off Samsung’s latest technology.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will go on sale in South Korea on December 12. It will later be released in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. A U.S. launch is expected in the first quarter of 2026. Samsung is offering one model in black with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, priced at 3,594,000 won ($2,449).
Liz Lee, associate director at Counterpoint Research, said the launch is strategic. She explained that competition will grow in 2026, especially with Apple expected to enter the foldable market. She added that the TriFold will help Samsung “reinforce its technology leadership”. The company plans to use the device to test durability, hinge design, and software performance, rather than sell it in large volumes.

The phone unfolds into a 10-inch display using two inward-folding hinges. It can run three apps side by side and offers a desktop-style mode. The battery is Samsung’s largest among foldable phones and can reach 50 percent charge in 30 minutes. When folded, the device is 12.9 millimeters thick.
TM Roh, Samsung’s co-CEO and head of the Device eXperience division, said the TriFold reflects years of work on foldable technology. He added it is designed to combine portability, performance, and productivity in a single device.
Samsung faces growing competition from Chinese brands. Huawei recently launched its second-generation trifold in China, and Honor has expanded its foldable lineup internationally.
The phone was shown to media in Seoul on December 2, demonstrating Samsung’s latest effort to strengthen its lead in the foldable smartphone market.
