Fubara, Fubara dissolves cabinet

Rivers: Fubara appoints new Chief of Staff, SSG

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed a new Secretary to the State Government and a new Chief of Staff at Government House, Port Harcourt.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the governor named Dagogo Wokoma as the new SSG and Mr Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff.

The appointments were announced in a Special Government Announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, and shared with journalists. The statement said both appointments take effect immediately.

No reason was given for the removal of the previous office holders. The new appointees are scheduled to be sworn in at 2 p.m. at Government House, Port Harcourt.

The statement read, “The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff.

“Both appointments are with immediate effect. The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 26, 2026.

“The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.”

However, the new SSG replaces Mr Benibo Anabraba, while the new Chief of Staff takes over from Edison Ehie.

Ehie’s role had been widely discussed since President Bola Tinubu stepped into the political crisis in the state, with sources claiming he had been operating behind the scenes.

The appointments are seen as part of the recent reconciliation between Fubara and his former ally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, after Tinubu intervened to stop the planned impeachment of the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly and facilitated talks between the two leaders.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, said during plenary last week that the House had withdrawn its impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, following the President’s intervention.

Fubara had also dissolved his cabinet of eight commissioners and dismissed all his Special Advisers.
