Politicians sponsoring kidnappings — Okpebholo claims

Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, has claimed that recent kidnappings in the state are attempts to intimidate President Bola Tinubu.

Okpebholo made the claim on Friday when leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Edo visited him in Benin City.

He said the abductors were using fear to undermine the president.

“We will not succumb to blackmail. What they are doing now is kidnapping people because they want to discourage Mr. President,” he said.

He added that the same tactic was used against former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the state government is aware of the pattern.

Okpebholo also assured the delegation that concerns raised by the Igbo community in the state are being addressed.

Benjamin Ezewere, president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Edo, praised the governor’s performance in his first year and pledged the group’s continued support for the administration.
