Plateau govt declares curfew in Jos North after bandit attack

The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a bandit attack in Angwan Rukuba.

The attack, which happened on Sunday evening in the Gari Ya Waye area, left several people dead and others injured.

Authorities said the curfew is meant to restore order and support ongoing security operations in the area. It will run from midnight on March 29 to April 1, 2026.

In a statement, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, confirmed the decision.

“Following the tragic security incident that occurred at Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba… resulting in the loss of lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the statement read.

“The Plateau State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect.”

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the attack, calling it a “barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens.”

He also assured residents that security agencies are working to arrest those responsible.
