The Lagos State Government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sentenced two bakery workers to two weeks of community service after they were accused of stealing five loaves of bread from their employer.
According to a statement released on Monday, September 8, via the state government’s website, the employer insisted the case be taken to court. However, under the ministry’s sifting process at the Magistrates’ Courts, a District Prosecutor redirected the matter to the Restorative Justice Centre.

The ministry explained that this outcome is part of its justice sector reforms, which focus on accountability and reconciliation in minor offences rather than punitive measures.
The decision reflects a growing shift towards restorative justice in Lagos, ensuring offenders take responsibility for their actions while also reducing the burden on the courts.
