Although the cause of the fire outbreak was not yet known, sources said it might have to do with electrical fault.
The fire outbreak happened as the INEC in the state was holding a stakeholder meeting at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka ahead Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
Confirming the incident, the Director, Voter Education/Head of Public Relations of INEC in the state, Mr. Leo Nkedife, said the cause of the fire was not yet known.
He said: “We are not around; we are somewhere in a programme but it has been confirmed. It is a container containing smart card readers that was burnt.”
Meanwhile, security operatives have cordoned off the INEC complex to prevent people from entering inside it and journalists from getting close to take pictures.
