A 52-year-old photographer, Oriyomi Olayikan, was on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing cell phones worth N95,000 and a box of jewellery valued at N1 million.
Olayikan, who resides at 69, Ise Oja St, Abeokuta, Ogun, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the offence was committed on Sept. 26, in Aina Street, Ohiri, a suburb of Lagos.
Akeem said that the accused went to the residence of Mr Gbadebo Adeyele to deliver some photographs.
“When the accused got to the living room he did not see anybody.
“He used the opportunity to steal a box of jewellery and two mobile phones that were placed on the chair by Adeyele’s wife.
“It was after the accused had left that the complainant couldn’t find her box of jewellery worth N1million and mobile phones valued at N95,000,” he said.
The prosecutor said that since the incident, the accused switched off his cell phone and all efforts to locate him proved abortive.
“The police got useful information about the where-about of the accused and he was later arrested,” he said.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr T. O. Shomade, granted the accused N1 million bail with two sureties in like sum.
Shomade adjourned the case until November 15 for a mention.
