Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has once again aimed his criticism at Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
This time, it’s over Obi’s choice of words in a congratulatory message to the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja.
Obi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), had congratulated the monarch on his installation as the 44th Olubadan, describing him as “my dear brother.”
He praised the former Oyo governor’s contributions to Ibadan’s growth and hailed his ascension as a source of pride for the Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large.

But Omokri was not having it.
In a lengthy response on X, he faulted Obi’s use of the phrase “my dear brother,” insisting that the Olubadan’s throne carries centuries of history and reverence that should never be addressed so casually.
He further challenged Obi on whether he would address northern monarchs like emirs in the same way, questioning his diplomacy and respect for Yoruba royalty.
Omokri didn’t stop there.
He linked Obi’s remark to Olubadan as what he described as a lack of polish, class, and leadership qualities claiming it’s one of the reasons Obi is “not fit” for Nigeria’s presidency.
“When Peter Obi was planning his “Religious War” against the Muslim Ummah to destroy them politically in Nigeria during his ‘Church Take Back Your Country’ campaign, he did not call Bishop David Oyedepo ‘My dear brother”. He respectfully and reverentially called him “Yes Daddy”.
But now that he addresses a Royal Father and one of Nigeria’s most powerful and respected First Class Kings, Peter Obi condescendingly calls him “my dear brother!”
Those who say we should overlook the error because he does not come from such a culture of respect may respectfully be missing the big picture. Peter Obi can do it when he wants to show honour and respect. That he disrespected the Olubadan was not a mistake. It was a matter of choice to show his contempt for Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja and the people of Ibadan.
Even Scripture in Romans 13:7 says, Give honour to whom it is due!
We all know what we are doing,” Omokri wrote.
This clash comes just days after Obi’s goodwill message trended during the high-profile coronation in Ibadan, attended by President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries.
