The Federal Government on Wednesday announced that the industrial dispute between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has been resolved.
This was disclosed in a communiqué signed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Dingyadi.
According to the minister, unionisation is a fundamental right of workers guaranteed by Nigerian laws and must be respected.
Addressing concerns over the reported disengagement of more than 800 workers, the communiqué stated that no employee would be victimised for their role in the dispute. Instead, the Dangote Group will “immediately start the process of moving the disengaged workers to other companies within the group, with no loss of pay.”
The minister further revealed that PENGASSAN had agreed to begin the process of calling off its strike, following the assurances reached at the meeting.
“Both parties agreed to this understanding in good faith,” the communiqué concluded.
