Ogun police transfers Destiny Boy’s body to SCID, one suspect arrested

The Ogun State Police Command has transferred the body of 22-year-old Afro-Fuji singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy, to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, as part of a detailed Destiny Boy police investigation.

One suspect is currently in custody as detectives intensify efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the young musician’s sudden death.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, the command has formally commenced inquiries and moved the case to SCID for a thorough forensic and homicide investigation.

“One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing,” the statement confirmed.

Destiny Boy’s death, which reportedly occurred on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and social media. Videos showing his lifeless body being transported later surfaced online, further heightening public concern.

Although the singer’s family has not confirmed an official cause of death, unverified reports and eyewitness accounts on social media suggested he experienced severe symptoms shortly before his passing, including vomiting blood.

Reacting to the development, popular Nigerian singer Ruger took to social media to express concern over what he described as a lack of transparency.

“No autopsy, nothing! Are we just supposed to accept it like that? Someone has to be held accountable,” he wrote, reflecting the sentiments of many Nigerians.

Prior to his death, Destiny Boy frequently shared posts on Instagram with the phrase: “Either I make this money or I die young. Money must be made.” These posts have since generated emotional reactions and discussion among fans.

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy began his career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege as a backup dancer for Fuji musician Pasuma.

He gained national attention in 2019 with a viral Fuji cover of Davido’s ‘If’ and later released original tracks such as ‘Lamba,’ ‘Gbese,’ and ‘Lowkey,’ earning a loyal following in Nigeria’s music scene.

As the SCID continues its forensic work, authorities have assured the public that the Destiny Boy police investigation will be conducted thoroughly to clarify the circumstances surrounding his untimely passing.

The family, who welcomed their first child with partner Iremide in November 2024, continues to mourn while calling for a complete and transparent investigation. The Destiny Boy police investigation remains ongoing.
