In response to his conviction, Uduak Akpan, who was today, August 4, sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of jobseeker Iniubong Umoren, complained to the court that nothing is being done to stop the “many assassinations” in Nigeria.
In Uyo, a State High Court on Thursday found Uduak Akpan guilty of killing Iniubong Umoren last year after luring her there with a phony job interview.
According to the judge, Bassey Nkanang, Mr. Akpan will be executed by hanging.

Mr. Akpan was given a life sentence after Mr. Nkanang found him guilty of rape.
The judge asked Mr. Akpan whether he would want to address the court after the judge had found him guilty.
Akpan responded: “My Lord, I am not guilty.”
However, the judge informed him that the court had moved past that phase. He advised him to speak about the case in some way.
Akpan then said: “My Lord, in our country, there’re many assassinations, but nobody is doing something about it.”
