Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has urged women to place greater importance on their financial stability rather than succumbing to societal pressure to get married.
In a recent Instagram post, the actress shared a candid message, encouraging women to rethink common expectations around relationships while stressing the need for independence. Speaking on financial independence over marriage, Nkechi said women should be more concerned about economic security than their marital status.
According to her, being unmarried does not reduce a woman’s value, but lacking financial stability can limit opportunities and life choices.
She wrote: “Woman to woman, you should be more afraid of being poor than being unmarried. Singleness doesn’t take away your worth, but poverty takes away your choices.”
Expanding on her point, Nkechi maintained that the conversation around financial independence over marriage is necessary, especially in a society where women are often pressured to settle down quickly.
She urged women to focus on building their careers, securing their future, and becoming self-reliant before considering marriage. According to her, personal growth and stability should take precedence over meeting societal expectations.
Her message highlights the importance of financial independence over marriage, reinforcing the idea that a woman’s worth is not defined by her relationship status but by her ability to stand on her own and make empowered decisions.
