Nigeria’s passport has been ranked 89th out of 199 in the 2026 Henley Passport Index.
The annual index, which uses exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and expert analysis of global travel trends, tracks the strength of passports worldwide.
In July 2025, Nigeria’s passport reached 88th, its highest position in five years, but it slipped to 94th by the end of the year.
The latest ranking, released in January, shows Nigeria sharing the 89th position with Myanmar, with a visa-free score of 44. This score counts the total number of destinations that Nigerian passport holders can enter without a visa, or where they can obtain a visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an electronic travel authority (ETA).

Globally, Singapore holds the top spot, granting access to 192 countries, while Afghanistan ranks last with access to 24 destinations.
