In connection with the South African murder of Hillary Indira Gardee, a Nigerian national and four other suspects have already been taken into custody.

The Lagos-born, 28-year-old postgraduate student vanished on April 29, 2022, and her body wasn’t discovered until May.
She vanished while out for a stroll with her three-year-old adopted daughter. Later that day, the child was dropped off at their home on Umnenke Street in KaMaGugu.
On Sunday, August 14, the suspect, a mid-thirties-old Nigerian national, was brought in to be questioned.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a spokesman for the Mpumalanga police, confirmed the development on Tuesday, August 16. He said the suspect has been accused of thwarting the course of justice.
“We have taken him for questioning on Sunday afternoon and ultimately we managed to charge him today and he’s expected to appear in the Nelspruit magistrate’s court on Wednesday 17 August, facing the charges that I’ve just indicated,” he said.
“And I must indicate that we have indeed said from the beginning that we are not going to leave any stone unturned and all the people or all the suspects who have been involved in this particular case are going to be arrested.” he added.
In connection with the murder, four additional suspects—all South African nationals—have already made court appearances.
On Thursday night in KwaThema, Gauteng, police detained a fourth suspect.
The fourth suspect, who has been connected to the deaths of three other women, was classified as a potential serial murderer by provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Semakaleng Manamela.
“We can confirm that working with our team from Gauteng, we managed to arrest a suspect who was wanted [in connection to the case],” Manamela said.
“The suspect was arrested and is believed to be responsible for murder also in Sundra and of two sisters at KaNyamazane (in Mpumalanga) where one of the victims was a police officer.”
