Nigeria doctor spots kidnap suspects at own hospital

A Nigerian doctor has reportedly identified two men suspected to be among those who kidnapped him, after they showed up at the same hospital where he works in Auchi, Edo State.

The doctor, Dr. Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, was abducted on January 2, 2026, alongside his younger brother, Abu Tahir.

During the attack, Abu Tahir was later killed, while Dr. Babatunde regained freedom after his family allegedly paid N50 million ransom, despite an initial demand of N100 million.

Reports say the suspects returned to the Specialist Hospital in Auchi on February 8, 2026, with a sick baby.

The doctor reportedly recognised them immediately while attending to the child.

Police later arrested the two men, identified as Idris Abubakar and Sani Abubakar, inside the hospital. A third suspect, Saminu Kawujie, was said to have been arrested earlier in Warake Forest.
