Iman Shumpert, a former guard for the New York Knicks, was taken into custody over the weekend when Dallas/Fort Worth Airport security personnel allegedly discovered a “sizable” amount of marijuana in his backpack.
According to TMZ, Shumpert was detained by law enforcement at a TSA checkpoint on Saturday about 2:40 p.m. in response to a probable narcotics violation call.
Shumpert admitted to possessing marijuana after further inspection revealed that he had 6.12 ounces of a “green leafy material” in his backpack. Additionally, subsequent tests confirmed the chemical.

Prior to being detained and taken to the airport jail, the Brooklyn Nets player also admitted to owning marijuana, according to the source.
At 3:00 p.m., Shumpert—who is married to Teyana Taylor and has two children with her, Iman, 6, and Rue Rose, 1—was traveling to Los Angeles on a Delta Airlines flight.
Iman also mentioned his anxiety about missing the trip when speaking with authorities. He was then told that he would miss his flight. In addition, police said that the former Dancing With The Stars contestant had a Glock magazine and 14 nine-millimeter rounds in his backpack but no actual gun.
The Berwyn, Illinois resident, whose use of marijuana is considered a “State Jail Felony,” might spend up to two years in prison and pay a hefty $10,000 fine if found guilty.
Iman, at 21 years old, made his NBA debut in 2011 while playing for the New York Knicks, where he remained for four seasons. After a brief stint both with the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings, he subsequently transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he stayed from 2015 to 2018. Most recently, Shumpert signed up with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019 and again in 2021 for a brief 10-day contract. Since then, he has given up playing basketball professionally.
He made his relationship with Teyana public in 2014, and the two had their first kid the following year. In addition to appearing in the reality series We Got Love Teyana & Iman, the pair wed in 2017.
