Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally joined the race for another term, signaling the start of early political activity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi Central.
She made her intention known on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in the district, a move seen as part of wider consultations and shifting alliances ahead of the next election cycle.
Details of the development were contained in a statement released by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko.
The meeting drew party leaders, loyalists, and other key figures, who gathered to discuss the party’s direction in Kogi Central, an area that has recently witnessed intense political competition among major actors.
Speaking at the event, the lawmaker said her decision followed sustained engagement with constituents across the five local government areas, alongside appeals urging her to seek re-election.
“After due consultations and encouragement from my lovely husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she declared to resounding applause.
Her move comes on the back of growing endorsements from within the party and community leaders, reflecting what insiders describe as increasing grassroots backing in recent months.
She also stressed the need for unity within the PDP, cautioning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in upcoming elections.
“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” she urged.
Also speaking, PDP Kogi Central Zonal Chairman, Anthony Akuvada, applauded her performance in office, crediting her with reshaping representation in the district.
“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has redefined representation in Kogi Central. Her performance in office has been nothing short of exemplary, from infrastructural development to human capital empowerment,” Akuvada said.

He further highlighted her accessibility and engagement with constituents, describing it as a key factor in strengthening the bond between leadership and the grassroots.
“She is a leader who listens, understands the pulse of her people, and has consistently delivered on her promises. Her closeness to party members and constituents is a rare quality that continues to unite our party,” he added.
Her time in office has featured initiatives in education, youth and women empowerment, alongside advocacy for infrastructure development in the district—efforts that have broadened her appeal beyond party lines.
She also acknowledged the support of her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Otuoze Uduaghan, Alema of Warri Kingdom, describing him as a pillar throughout her political journey.
“My husband has been my steadfast support system, my encourager, and my strength through every challenge. I remain grateful for his belief in me and in this journey of service,” she said.
With her declaration now public, attention is likely to turn to party alignments and reactions from opponents, as stakeholders ended the meeting with renewed commitment to unity and support for her candidacy.
