The National Association of Nigerian Students’ leadership has refuted rumors that it is organizing a countrywide closure of the nation’s largest cities.
NANS called the allegations “baseless” and stated that it neither announced nor supported any such protest.
NANS stated that the allegations do not represent the views or goals of our organization in a statement released on Tuesday by Senate President Akinteye Babatunde of the association.
As to the statement, there are rumors and misinformation circulating across different platforms indicating that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is organizing a nationwide closure of major cities. These have been brought to the attention of NANS leadership.
“We wish to categorically state that NANS has not announced or endorsed any such protest. These reports are entirely baseless and do not reflect the position or intentions of our organisation.”
NANS stated that it is dedicated to nonviolent activism and positive interaction with pertinent parties, as opposed to upsetting the country’s tranquility.
The text of the statement says, “As the umbrella body representing the interests of Nigerian students, we have always been committed to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders.
“We understand the critical importance of maintaining peace and stability in our nation, especially during these challenging times. Any actions that could lead to civil unrest or the disruption of public order are not, and will never be, supported by NANS.”
Noting that the assertions are unidentified, it asked the public to reject them.
