A failed assassination attempt was made on the life of Hon. Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, member representing Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency and Edo Central Coordinator of the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, at his Uromi residence early this morning.
Armed thugs disguised as police officers, traveling in a Lexus GX 470 with Rivers State registration number PHC 253 FF, invaded Okojie’s home, claiming to have an appointment. However, security personnel quickly intervened, thwarting the attack and causing two of the thugs to flee. The driver and another suspect were apprehended and are currently being questioned by the Nigeria Police Force’s Uromi Area Command.
According to confessional statements, the suspects alleged that Mr. Isaac Imasuagbon and leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan North East Local Government Area orchestrated the attack.
Hon. Sam Oboh, Assistant State Secretary of the APC, strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that “election should not be treated as war, nor should it be a matter of life and death.” Oboh demanded accountability for those involved and urged their arrest and prosecution.
Hon. Prince Odi Okojie has also called upon the Inspector General of Police, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, and other security agencies to apprehend everyone connected to the assassination attempt.
As of the time of filing this report, this incident highlights the escalating tensions and violence surrounding the upcoming elections in Nigeria.
