Man City beat Arsenal 2-0 to lift Carabao Cup

Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-0 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday to lift the Carabao Cup, with Nico O’Reilly scoring both goals in the second half.

The final started cautiously, with Arsenal looking sharper in the opening stages but failing to make their chances count. City, meanwhile, struggled to create clear openings before the break, managing no shots on target in the first half.

The match shifted just after the hour mark when a mistake from Kepa Arrizabalaga handed City the breakthrough. The goalkeeper failed to deal with a cross from Rayan Cherki, allowing O’Reilly to head home from close range.

The 21-year-old struck again minutes later, meeting a delivery from Matheus Nunes and directing his header into the top corner to put City firmly in control.

Arsenal responded late on, hitting the woodwork through Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Jesus, but could not find a way past a composed City defence.

The win sees Pep Guardiola become the first manager to claim the EFL Cup five times, moving ahead of Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho.

For Arsenal, it is another setback in their search for silverware under Mikel Arteta, whose side failed to turn early promise into goals.

City’s latest triumph also extends their remarkable record in the competition, having now won nine of their 10 finals and their last eight in succession.
