LASG issues traffic diversion ahead of City Marathon on Feb 14

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the 2026 Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, February 14.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the government said the marathon, which features 42-kilometre and 10-kilometre races, will run simultaneously along designated routes across the city.

According to the traffic plan, the 42-kilometre race will begin at Ahmadu Bello Way (by MRS Filling Station) and proceed through the entire stretch of the Coastal Road, which will serve as the finishing point.

The 10-kilometre race will start from Durosimi Etti, Lekki Phase 1, and pass through Ozumba Mbadiwe, Bishop Oluwole, Akin Adesola and Sanusi Fafunwa before ending at the designated finish line.

The government disclosed that all adjoining roads, junctions and intersections along both routes will be closed to vehicular movement from 12:00 midnight to 12:30pm on Saturday, February 14. The roads will, however, be opened intermittently as the race progresses.

It added that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in collaboration with other security agencies, will be deployed to man the affected corridors and prevent unauthorised access to the race routes.

Speaking on the arrangements, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured residents that traffic management personnel would be strategically positioned to guide motorists and minimise inconvenience.

He urged commuters to plan their journeys ahead of time by using alternative routes and other means of transportation where necessary, noting that the temporary closures were part of measures put in place for the smooth conduct of the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Motorists were also advised to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials, as the partial closure of major roads forms part of the state’s traffic management strategy for the event.
