Lagos: Woman cries out after being snubbed for ‘Iya Adinni’ role in mosque

A woman in Lagos has sparked widespread reactions online after narrating how she was allegedly overlooked for a leadership position in her mosque despite years of dedication and service.

The incident, now drawing attention on social media, has been widely discussed under the theme Lagos woman snubbed for Iya Adinni role.

According to her account, she had consistently taken on cleaning duties at the mosque, including washing toilets, mopping floors, and maintaining the environment.

She said she carried out the tasks wholeheartedly, believing she was serving Allah and contributing meaningfully to the growth of the religious community. At times, she claimed the physical strain made her ill, yet she remained committed.

Trouble reportedly began when mosque leaders announced plans to appoint an Iya Adinni (a women’s leader within the mosque).

Confident that her years of sacrifice and regular attendance would count in her favour, she said she was shocked when her name was not mentioned among those considered for the role.

The development has since fueled conversations online, with many tagging the situation as Lagos woman snubbed for Iya Adinni role.

She further alleged that the position was instead given to other women described as prominent traders, whom she claimed were not as active in mosque activities.

When she approached the Imam to ask what role she would be assigned after her years of service, she was reportedly told that she would be responsible for carrying the offering box to collect donations.
