Lagos: Police arrest TikToker Peller over reckless driving, live-streamed crash

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular TikToker and content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral incident involving a reckless driving live stream that ended in a road crash.

Police said the arrest came after widespread public outrage over a video that circulated online showing the influencer driving at high speed while broadcasting live, moments before losing control of his vehicle. The incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, on a Lagos road.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command described the act as dangerous and unacceptable, noting that the reckless driving live stream posed a serious threat to the safety of the suspect and other road users.

According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that Peller’s actions amounted to a gross violation of traffic laws and could have resulted in fatal consequences. The suspect was immediately taken into custody and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

“The behaviour displayed in the video is extremely dangerous and shows a clear disregard for public safety,” the statement said, adding that the police would ensure full accountability in line with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also used the incident to warn social media influencers and members of the public against chasing online engagement through risky behaviour. He stressed that exploiting digital platforms for stunts such as a reckless driving live stream would no longer be tolerated.

Jimoh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to enforcing traffic regulations without fear or favour, urging motorists to obey road safety rules at all times.

The arrest has renewed conversations around the growing trend of dangerous content creation on social media, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement to deter similar acts.

Police said the outcome of the investigation would be made public, after which the suspect would be charged to court accordingly.
