A Lagos resident, Tobi Odukoya, has expressed frustration over what she described as excessive medical charges after visiting a hospital in Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, where she was allegedly asked to pay an additional fee before her test results could be explained.
Sharing her experience on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Odukoya said she initially visited the facility to consult a gynecologist but was met with a series of payments that quickly escalated.
According to her, she paid N23,766 for registration and N119,000 for consultation. She added that she was further billed close to N350,000 for medical tests, bringing her total expenses to over N400,000, excluding transportation costs.
After waiting for nearly a month for the results, she said she returned to the hospital expecting to receive an explanation of her medical condition. However, she was allegedly informed that she would need to pay an additional N64,000 before a gynecologist could interpret the test results.

“I almost lost it when they told me I had to pay again just to understand my results. They said it’s their policy, but I honestly can’t afford N64,000,” she said.
Odukoya noted that she requested for her results to be sent to her email instead, expressing disappointment over the experience.
“I’m so heartbroken and disappointed,” she added.
Her post has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians raising concerns about the rising cost of healthcare and billing practices in private medical facilities.
