The newly inaugurated Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has removed Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin from his position as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
The development comes six months after Hundeyin assumed the role.
Reports indicate that the decision was finalised on Thursday morning, making it one of the early personnel changes under the new police leadership.
The action has drawn attention at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Although the reasons for the removal have not been officially stated, the decision comes amid a wider reorganisation within the Nigeria Police Force following the appointment of a new Inspector-General.
The change also comes less than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu inaugurated Disu as the 23rd substantive Inspector-General of Police, replacing Kayode Egbetokun.
Sources at the Force Headquarters said the directive for Hundeyin’s removal was issued early Thursday. Officers in the public relations department are waiting for information on who will replace him.
Hundeyin was known for his background in policing and communication, but leadership changes in the Force often come with adjustments to key positions.

“The Force Public Relations has been removed this morning,” a reliable source stated. The source added that while many expected Hundeyin to serve a longer tenure due to his expertise, it is standard practice for a new IGP to handpick their core team. “We don’t know who will take over from him… unfortunately, he was affected” by the new changes.
Hundeyin, a native of Badagry, was appointed FPRO by the former Inspector-General, Kayode Egbetokun. Before the appointment, he had served in several roles within the Force.
He is a graduate of Lagos State University and holds a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
Hundeyin is also a member of professional organisations including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).
During his career, he served as the Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 2 Command in Lagos and also participated in international service with the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
As IGP Tunji Disu begins his tenure, the removal of the FPRO signals the start of changes within the Nigeria Police Force. A replacement for Hundeyin is expected to be announced soon to maintain the operations of the Force’s communication department.
