Procurement director dies

Joy turns to sorrow: LASRRA’s procurement director dies days to retirement ceremony

What was meant to be a moment of joy and celebration has turned into deep sorrow for the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), following the sudden death of its Director of Procurement, Mrs. Serifat Olubukola Talabi, who was tragically killed in an accident just days before her scheduled retirement and 60th birthday thanksgiving ceremony.

According to reports, Mrs. Talabi was knocked down by a vehicle on October 18, 2025, while attempting to cross the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Camp, in Ibafo, Ogun State.

Until her untimely death, she served as Director of Procurement at LASRRA and had already distributed invitation cards for a combined Thanksgiving, Retirement, and 60th Birthday Celebration, slated for October 22, 2025, at the NERDC Conference Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, LASRRA’s Public Relations Officer, Basirat Lawal, described the incident as devastating and deeply shocking.

“We are still in disbelief. She was in the office last Friday, and everything was ready for her retirement on October 22. She was supposed to retire on October 13, when she turned 60, but it was moved to October 22 because our General Manager was away. The agency will attend her burial,” Lawal stated.

Mrs. Talabi’s sudden demise has left her colleagues, friends, and family heartbroken, turning what was meant to be a day of joy and celebration into one of mourning.
