William Stevenson, the ex-husband of former US First Lady Jill Biden, has been charged with the murder of his current wife, Linda Stevenson.
Stevenson, 77, is facing a first-degree murder charge, according to New Castle County Police in Delaware.
In a statement released on Monday, police said Stevenson was indicted in Wilmington after a weeks-long investigation.
The case is linked to an incident on December 28, 2025, when officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at the couple’s home.
Linda Stevenson, 64, was found unresponsive in the living room at about 11:15pm.
“Officers immediately administered life-saving measures; however, despite their efforts, Linda was later pronounced deceased,” police said.
Authorities have not released the cause or manner of death.

Police said Stevenson is being held in Wilmington after failing to post bail set at $500,000 (£365,000).
Linda’s obituary described her as a devoted mother and grandmother.
“Linda was deeply family-oriented and treasured time spent making memories, especially on family vacations with her daughter and granddaughter,” the obituary said.
Stevenson was married to Jill Biden from 1970 to 1975. Jill later married Joe Biden in 1977.
The BBC said it has contacted Jill Biden and former President Joe Biden for comment.
