JFK granddaughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, dies of leukemia

Tatiana Schlossberg, a climate and environmental journalist and the granddaughter of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, has died at the age of 35, her family announced on Tuesday.

Her death was confirmed in a social media post shared via the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

“Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,” the family wrote.

Schlossberg was the daughter of Caroline Kennedy, a former U.S. diplomat and the only surviving child of John F. Kennedy, and Edwin Schlossberg, a designer and artist. She was their second child.

In an essay published in The New Yorker in November, Schlossberg revealed that she had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia with a rare mutation, a form of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow.

In the same essay, she criticised her cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the U.S. health secretary, over his long-standing vaccine skepticism and for what she described as cuts to cancer research funding.

Schlossberg was known for her work on climate change and environmental issues and had spoken publicly about the urgency of addressing global environmental challenges.

She last appeared publicly in October at the 2023 Profile in Courage Award ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, where she addressed the audience.
