J. Cole has officially released his long-awaited album, The Fall-Off.
The North Carolina rapper dropped the 24-track double album on Friday, Feb. 6. It includes two bonus songs and is his seventh studio release. Many see it as his possible final solo project.
The album was first teased in 2018 on his KOD album with the track “1985 (Intro to ‘The Fall Off’).” That year, Cole confirmed he was working on a full album with the same title. Songs like “Everybody Dies” and “False Prophets” were originally meant for it. In 2019, he hinted fans might get the album in 2020, though the release was delayed.
In the years since, Cole released The Off-Season (2021) and the mixtape D-Day (2022). In early 2024, he teased The Fall-Off again but instead dropped the surprise mixtape Might Delete Later, which earned a 2025 Grammy nomination. He also reflected on his career in the audio series Inevitable and released the single “Clouds” in 2025.
Last month, Cole officially announced The Fall-Off. On Jan. 27, a day before his 39th birthday, he released four freestyles called Birthday Blizzard ’26.
The album runs about 100 minutes and is split into two parts: Disc 29 and Disc 39. Cole said Disc 29 reflects on returning to Fayetteville at age 29, while Disc 39 shares his thoughts a decade later as a married father and two-time Grammy winner.
Early reactions praise Cole’s lyricism, storytelling, and reflection across the full 24-track set.
