Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alireza Enayati, has firmly denied that Tehran targeted the US embassy in Riyadh earlier this week, following reports from Saudi officials that the diplomatic compound had been attacked with drones.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Enayati stressed that Iran’s envoy rejects claims linking Tehran to the incident, saying, “We confirmed that Iran has no role in the attack on the US embassy in Riyadh. If the operations command in Tehran carries out military actions, it takes responsibility for them, which is not the case here.”
Saudi authorities had accused Iran of conducting a drone strike on the embassy, which reportedly caused a fire at the compound. However, Iran’s envoy rejects claims of any involvement, emphasizing that Tehran’s operations are strictly defensive and aimed at military targets in response to US and Israeli strikes, not diplomatic missions.

Enayati also welcomed Saudi Arabia’s repeated assurances that its territory, airspace, and waters would not be used against Iran, highlighting the importance of diplomatic cooperation amid rising regional tensions. He reaffirmed that Iran continues to prioritize peace, dialogue, and adherence to international law.
“This is not a regional war and it is not our war. It was imposed on the region,” he said, reiterating that Iran’s envoy rejects claims of aggression against civilian or foreign sites.
The denial comes amid escalating hostilities in the Gulf, with recent US and Israeli operations prompting retaliatory strikes from Iran. The Middle East conflict has increased tensions across the region, but Enayati’s statements aim to reassure the international community that diplomatic missions, including the US embassy, are not targeted.
