Top 10 highest-paid footballers

The competition to be named among the world’s highest-paid footballers in 2025 has reached new heights. From Saudi Arabia’s wealth-fueled league to Europe’s traditional powerhouses, football’s biggest stars are commanding staggering salaries that continue to redefine the financial dynamics of the sport.

Leading the pack once again is Cristiano Ronaldo, while a new generation of global talents steadily rises, reshaping both the game and its economics.

Ronaldo Still the King

At 40, Cristiano Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down. The Portuguese superstar tops the 2025 earnings chart, raking in an incredible $280 million this season  $230 million from his Al Nassr contract and an additional $50 million from endorsements with brands like Nike, Binance, and Herbalife.

Despite earlier rumours about his possible retirement, Ronaldo extended his contract with Al Nassr for another two years.

“I think I’m still producing good things; I’m helping my club and the national team. Why not keep going?” he told Canal 11 in October.

According to Forbes, this marks the sixth time in a decade Ronaldo has been ranked football’s top earner — a testament to his enduring dominance both on and off the field. Only boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has ever surpassed that annual figure among all athletes since 1990.

Messi and Benzema Follow Closely

In second place is Lionel Messi, who continues to shine with Inter Miami in the MLS. The Argentine icon earned an estimated $130 million, split between $60 million in salary and $70 million from his vast endorsement portfolio, which includes Adidas, Lay’s, and Mastercard. Reports suggest Messi is close to signing a contract extension that could keep him in Miami beyond 2028.

Karim Benzema rounds out the top three with $104 million in total income. The 37-year-old French striker, currently at Saudi side Al Ittihad, earns $100 million on-field and $4 million off-field through sponsorships with Adidas and Assaf Perfumes. Despite being in the twilight of his career, Benzema remains lethal in front of goal.

Mbappé, Haaland, and the Emerging Elite

Kylian Mbappé, now at Real Madrid, ranks fourth with $95 million in combined earnings. The Frenchman’s influence extends beyond football, with investments in tech and fashion brands like Loewe and Wristcheck.

Erling Haaland follows in fifth place, earning $80 million — $60 million from Manchester City and $20 million in endorsements. The Norwegian goal machine continues to break records, scoring 12 goals in nine games this season.

Vinicius Jr., Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mané take the next three spots.

Vinicius Jr. earns $60 million with Real Madrid and remains one of football’s most marketable figures, fronting campaigns for Nike and Prada.

Mohamed Salah ranks seventh at $55 million, following his contract extension with Liverpool through 2027.

Sadio Mané, now at Al Nassr, is eighth with $54 million, maintaining his strong partnership with New Balance.

Bellingham and Yamal Lead the Youth Revolution

The final two spots on the list belong to the next generation of superstars: Jude Bellingham and Lamine Yamal.

Bellingham, just 22, earns $44 million after a breakout season at Real Madrid, where he won both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. His sponsorship deals with Adidas and Lucozade highlight his growing global profile.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Lamine Yamal of Barcelona completes the top 10 with $43 million. The teenage prodigy, already wearing the club’s iconic No. 10 jersey, has signed partnerships with Adidas and Beats by Dre, and boasts over 77 million social media followers

Changing of the Guard

This year’s list signals a clear generational shift. Half of the top ten players are under 30, marking the youngest lineup since 2020. La Liga leads the representation with four players, followed by the Saudi Pro League with three, the Premier League with two, and the MLS with one.

While Ronaldo continues to dominate football’s financial landscape, the rise of young stars like Bellingham and Yamal shows the future is already taking shape one that’s richer, faster, and more global than ever.
