HBO teases Harry Potter TV series, trailer coming later today

HBO has offered fans their first look at its upcoming Harry Potter television reboot, releasing an official image ahead of a teaser trailer expected later today.

The image shows newcomer Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, clad in Gryffindor Quidditch robes and heading toward the pitch. Though his face is only partially revealed, the shot leans into a familiar Hogwarts moment, signalling the series’ intent to blend nostalgia with a fresh visual style.

Set against the backdrop of Hogwarts castle and house banners, the scene hints at a lively Quidditch setting, one of the franchise’s most iconic elements. The production design suggests a larger, more detailed world as HBO prepares a long-form adaptation of the books.

Online, fans reacted quickly to the reveal, with many calling it “a return to childhood” while others focused on the imminent trailer release. The series is based on the bestselling novels by J. K. Rowling, which underpin one of the most successful fantasy franchises globally.

The cast introduces a new generation of actors, including Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Established names such as John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Paapa Essiedu (Snape) and Janet McTeer (McGonagall) round out the ensemble.

Filming is underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with showrunner Francesca Gardner leading the project and Mark Mylod serving as producer. Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer is attached to score the series.

According to early production details, each season will adapt one book, starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. HBO has not yet confirmed an exact release date, but the series is currently targeting a 2027 debut.

The reboot marks a return to the Wizarding World years after the original films, led by Daniel Radcliffe, became a global phenomenon. With a teaser trailer set to drop, anticipation is expected to build further as HBO ramps up promotion for one of its most ambitious projects.
