An 11-year-old boy from Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, has officially set a Guinness World Record as the youngest male video game developer.
Max earned the record after creating a five-level video game in just four hours during a supervised session in May. Six months later, he received confirmation from Guinness World Records that he had entered the record books.
“It’s amazing to achieve this record,” Max said. “I hope this is my first step to becoming a full-time video game designer in the future.”
His father, Trevor Baker, said Max discovered his passion for coding at age seven and has since published several games. “He noticed there was a record for the youngest female developer but not for a male,” Trevor explained. “So he put together an application and Guinness World Records sent the requirements.”
Max completed the record attempt at the local Makerspace, a hub in Barry and Penarth libraries that provides access to digital tools for all ages. Experts observed the session to ensure he received no outside help.
“I like coding because whatever you can dream of, you can put into a code language and make it real,” Max said.
Vale of Glamorgan councillor Rhiannon Birch added, “His journey demonstrates exactly what our Makerspaces are designed to inspire. These spaces nurture the next generation of innovators, creators, and digital leaders.”
