Gospel music icon Ron Kenoly dies at 81

Legendary gospel singer and worship leader, Ron Kenoly, has died at the age of 81.

His death was confirmed on Tuesday by several gospel artistes who took to their social media platforms to pay tribute to him.

Renowned Nigerian gospel minister, Nathaniel Bassey, announced the passing in a post on Instagram, describing Ron Kenoly as a major inspiration to generations of worship leaders.

“Dr Ron Kenoly crosses to yonder side. Thank you for inspiring generations of psalmists like me,” Bassey wrote.

“I grew up on these songs. And today, others are growing up on ours. Thank you, sir.”

Ron Kenoly was globally celebrated for his energetic praise and worship songs, which became staples in churches across the world. Some of his most popular songs include “Majesty,” “Righteousness, Peace & Joy,” “Anointing,” “All Honour,” and “Sing Out,” among others.

He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers who helped shape modern contemporary gospel music.
