God of Adeboye: Redeemer’s University produces 185 fresh first-class graduates

Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, will graduate 1,341 students at its 17th convocation ceremony, with 185 of them earning first-class honours.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, announced this at a press briefing held to mark the university’s 17th convocation and 20th anniversary celebration. He described the occasion as a “season of double honour” for the institution.

According to Akindele, the graduating class includes 662 students with second-class upper degrees, 410 with second-class lower degrees, 79 with third-class degrees, and five with pass degrees. The convocation will take place on October 9, while the postgraduate ceremony will hold on October 10.

The Vice-Chancellor named Joel Durigbo, a Mechanical Engineering student, as the overall best graduating student with a perfect 5.0 CGPA. He said Durigbo’s record reflects the university’s continued commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

Akindele added that 338 postgraduate students will also receive degrees and diplomas, including postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, MBAs, and PhDs. He said this year’s event is particularly meaningful as it celebrates both academic achievement and two decades of God’s faithfulness to the university.

“This year’s convocation is special. We are graduating another distinguished class, ‘The Indomitable Set,’ while celebrating 20 years of Redeemer’s University,” Akindele said. “Indeed, this is a season of double honour, and we return all glory to God.”

He also announced that honorary degrees will be conferred on Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, wife of a former Kwara State governor; Mr. Mike Bamiloye, President of Mount Zion Faith Ministries; and Mr. Kola Adeshina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Group.

Speaking on the university’s recent milestones, Akindele said the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) had selected Redeemer’s University as one of eight private universities in Nigeria approved to train TETFund-sponsored postgraduate candidates. He described the recognition as remarkable, considering there are 168 private universities in the country.

He also noted that the university made its debut on the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, where it emerged second in Nigeria and first in several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) categories.
