Ghana: Man kills wife, six children in house fire, takes own life

Tragedy struck the Akyempim community in Ghana’s Central Region after a man allegedly set his house ablaze, killing his wife and six children before taking his own life.

Reports revealed that the victims included the man’s wife, five of their children aged between one and fifteen, and the family’s eldest daughter.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), preliminary investigations indicated that the man locked the doors from outside before setting the building on fire while his family was asleep.

Eyewitnesses said residents woke up to the sound of screams and the crackle of flames but were unable to rescue the victims as the fire quickly engulfed the entire structure.

A disturbing video from the scene showed residents and emergency workers retrieving the charred remains of the victims from the ruins of the house. The horrific sight drew tears and shock from onlookers, leaving the entire community in deep mourning.

Hours later, authorities discovered the body of the suspect hanging from a tree in a nearby bush, confirming suspicions that he had taken his own life after committing the heinous act.

The GNFS and local police have commenced investigations to uncover the motive behind the tragic incident.
