Gateway Trade fair: Dangote highlights continental ambitions, reinforces Nigeria’s export potential

Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has unveiled a bold strategy to boost Nigeria’s exports and strengthen its position in agriculture and industry. The announcement was made during Dangote Special Day at the 15th Gateway International Trade Fair in Abeokuta.

Hajiya Fatima Aliko-Dangote, Group Executive Director, Commercial Operations, represented by Mr. Tunde Mabogunje, Dangote Cement Plc’s Regional Sales Director for Lagos/Ogun, said the Group’s investments across cement, energy, petrochemicals, fertilisers, and food aim to move Nigeria from an import-dependent economy to a net exporter of key products.

“Our participation at the Gateway Trade Fair this year dovetails with Dangote Vision 2030, our plan to accelerate industrial expansion, encourage cross-border investments, and reduce import dependence,” she said.

She added, “As a lead sponsor, Dangote Industries Limited is proud to stand with OGUNCCIMA to strengthen value chains and open markets for manufacturers, small businesses, and consumers across the region.”

Ogun State remains central to Dangote’s operations. Its 12 million metric tonnes per annum Ibese cement plant anchors domestic supply and exports, while a six million metric tonnes per annum plant in Itori is under construction to expand local supply chains and West African export capacity.

The Group’s continental plans include a $2.5 billion fertiliser project in Ethiopia, designed to produce up to three million metric tonnes of urea annually. Hajiya Aliko-Dangote said the initiative “positions Africa as a stronger agricultural exporter.”

Engr. Kehinde Akintomide, Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments, urged local industries and SMEs to emulate Dangote’s approach. “Long-term competitiveness requires resilience, strategic planning, and disciplined execution,” he said.

OGUNCCIMA President Lion Niyi Oshiyemi described Dangote Day as “a celebration of enterprise, resilience, and transformational impact on Nigeria’s economy.” He said the Group has strengthened the manufacturing base, created jobs, and enhanced Nigeria’s global standing.

“With Vision 2030, Dangote demonstrates how leadership, innovation, and commitment can drive national development,” Lion Oshiyemi added.
