The 98th Academy Awards ended with One Battle After Another as the night’s biggest winner, taking six awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The full list of nominees had already highlighted a tight race across major categories.
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film edged out strong competition from Sinners, which entered the ceremony with a record 16 nominations but finished with four wins.
Major acting prizes went to Michael B. Jordan (Best Actor, Sinners), Jessie Buckley (Best Actress, Hamnet), Sean Penn (Best Supporting Actor, One Battle After Another), and Amy Madigan (Best Supporting Actress, Weapons).
In the writing categories, Ryan Coogler won Best Original Screenplay for Sinners, while Anderson added Best Adapted Screenplay to his haul.
