The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the 98th Academy Awards nominations Thursday, and Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” set a new record with 16 nominations, more than any film in Oscar history.
The film tops the list in major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Star Michael B. Jordan received a Best Actor nomination, while Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo were nominated in supporting categories.
“One Battle After Another” followed closely with 13 nominations. Its Golden Globe–winning star Teyana Taylor was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, competing with Mosaku. In Best Supporting Actor, Lindo is up against Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro.
The nominees were announced by Lewis Pullman and Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks, ahead of the awards ceremony on ABC on March 15, hosted again by Conan O’Brien.
