A woman, Zainab Muhammad, has allegedly stabbed her husband, Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, to death just three days after their wedding in Jibia, Katsina State.
The couple married on Thursday, November 20, 2025, in what relatives described as a peaceful and consensual union. However, events took a tragic turn on Sunday when the groom was found in their home with a deep cut on his neck.
Residents of the Tashar Aibo community said the wife allegedly attacked her husband while he was asleep. They added that she was later seen wandering to a neighbour’s home asking for food, a behaviour that raised suspicion among elderly women who decided to follow her back to the house.
When the residents entered the home, they found the groom lying in a pool of blood. A cousin of the deceased, Aminu Danladi, who spent time with him earlier that day, described the incident as shocking.
Danladi said the couple, along with him, had planned a family visit for later in the evening. He explained that he left to freshen up and returned hours later to news that Abdulkarim had been killed.

He also dismissed claims that the marriage was forced, insisting the couple had a cordial relationship before the wedding. Community members said the bride, believed to be in her 20s, was introduced to the groom by his nephew, who was her classmate at Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia.
A community source added that the suspect had previously been married and divorced, a detail reportedly unknown to the groom’s family.
Police have confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement on Monday, said, “On November 23rd, 2025, at about 1:30pm, a report was received at the Jibia Division that one Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja quarters, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives were quickly drafted to the scene, where the victim was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his neck. The victim was taken to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention; unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
“One person is in custody, suspected to be in connection with the offence as investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.”
Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, has ordered a thorough investigation and urged members of the public to provide useful information.
