FIFA World Rankings: Africa’s top 10 best-ranked teams

Africa’s top football nations have seen notable movement in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Rankings released on January 19, 2026, following the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

AFCON finalists Morocco and Senegal headline the continent’s top 10, with both teams recording major climbs. Hosts Morocco rose three places to 8th globally, returning to the world’s top 10 for the first time since 1998 and achieving their highest ranking ever. Champions Senegal were the biggest movers, jumping seven places to 12th after reclaiming the continental title.

Nigeria remains Africa’s third-best ranked team despite sitting 26th worldwide, while Algeria and Egypt complete the top five on the continent.

Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Tunisia and DR Congo also retained spots in Africa’s top 10, reflecting steady performances across recent international fixtures.

At the global level, there were no changes among the top seven teams, with Spain retaining first place ahead of Argentina and France.
